My name is Carol Green. I am a self-employed graphic designer/web designer/educational writer, and I work from home. My spare time is fairly full of various activities, but one that I find to be a good antidote to my screen-based sedentary work day is gardening. I really enjoy growing food, and have pretty much sworn off growing anything new that isn’t food or that doesn’t help the vegetable garden.

Felicity KendallI’ve been growing vegetables since we bought our house at the end of 2003, with various successes and failures. I am in no way an expert but am learning all the time!

I live (and work) in the western suburbs of Auckland, New Zealand, which has a pretty temperate climate, wet winters, plenty of sunshine (2060 hours per year) and only one or two frosts in a year. So you get an idea, up (or down) here it’s easy to grow lemons and passionfruit but not so easy to grow brussels sprouts or stone fruit.

This year I was going to keep a garden diary but then realise that keeping a blog (primarily for myself) would allow me to easily search for previous sowings and harvests, and since some of my work involves making blog-based sites for clients, keeping my own blog would have the added advantage of being useful in a work sense.
